Engines

Post by hernpaul »

I have a 1959 Traveller and have recently acquiredfrom DVLC the details of previous owners etc.
I was interested to note that the original engine number still pertains but that the classification of the cc has changed from 948 to 1098 cc. Can anyone throw any light on this transformation please? :o

Take a look at the front right hand side of the engine (manifold side) for a largish plate or a large number cast into the block.

Check the engine no. on the alloy strip below no.1 spark plug. The previous owner probably notified DVLA of the change of engine but not the engine no.

Indeed a 59 car should have the 948 engine - so it must have been replaced at some time. 1098 engine should start with a '10' in the engine number.

when the engine was changed the owner will have simple notified dvla of the change in size and the old engine no will still be there unless he gave them the new no, not a great problem .
