price for engine rebuild

my engine is in need of a full rebuld,
how much would something like this cost to do

1275 engine ?
Crank grind with bearings ~£150. Rebore with pistons ~ £250. Add £50 for new oilpump/timing chain/gaskets. I'm assuming you are doing the dismantling/assembling work yourself. If you hand it in to an engine shop -likely to be ~£750 total. But could be much more........

Ties in pretty well with my estimates! Remember he will add VAT - and carriage to/from. The crank has 7 journals - add the cost of big-end/main/thrust bearings (+VAT)- it will be at least £150. Then the boring , + VAT again, carriage, pistons (good 1275 pistons not cheap)and don't forget removing the old pistons and fitting new......... I forgot to suggest facing the top of the block too - which would be a good idea. But it does look to be a very good machine shop -I wonder if related to the original legendary 'Rob Walker' ?

You're right. I was forgetting about the dreaded VAT and postage etc! I'm just glad I've got a spare couple of good engines stored away. Interesting about the other Rob Walker - seems a coincidence, but there's no mention of it on the RW engineering site.

looks likt its goin to cost me £1000, ive asked the place that jono at jlh takes his and the reason its so expensive is becuase it is being built for a supercharger

That's not too bad - PROVIDED it includes Tuftriding the crank - fitting the later Metro type heavy duty main bearings - and a centre main support strap. I would suggest also a Turbo oil pump - but I'm not sure it will fit under the backplate - you may need to modify the backplate slightly.

Rob Walker is very good in my experience- he's done all the machining on my 948 including align boring and adding cam bearings, boring out to 1030, acid-dipping, balancing, polishing the crank and supplying all parts including pistons, shells, con-rods etc. Very reasonable prices, and he's very knowledgeable and helpful. Be careful though- it can end up getting pricey, though of course I've had all sorts done that would never have been touched in an 'off-the-shelf' 'reconditioned' engine. Anyway, I'd recommend Rob Walker if you're going down the machining your existing engine route.

Considering its costing me nigh on £250 to have a head refurbed and a few little tweaks I'd say that £1000 is pretty reasonable for a turbo 1275 lump.

well it cost me £575 for a freshly rebulit 1310 cc midget engine

the marina one is getting saved for the supercharger build
