as powerful as vented disks ???

freshly painted 1275cc anda very loud big bore exhaust
Re: edu-ma-cate the mot man ..
WAY better - the 'venting ' only comes in to play if you are using them over and over again - a bit unlikely with a Minor - unless you take it rallying!

A good way of melting all the grease out of the bearings. 9 in drums for me

What do you do to get the brakes and wheels like that?? and where? A Minor is not meant to be driven that hard, they were just designed to be family cars!hotrodder13 wrote:mine gets use for 4 hours on a friday and sat nightive even had the breaks smelling and were you couldnt touch the wheel couse of how hot it was

The pads are probably sticking on, often the seals get gummed up if fluid is old. Vented discs should run cooler. Also worth bearing in mind that pre- anticipation of situations and use of gears can save a lot of unecessary braking!

on the subject of overheating brakes and discs, what do you guys use to unstick melted on dust covers? tried acetone, vinegar, meths, now wd40 and gas lamp, (with knitting needle to lift it off!) so far, the latter method is winning!

Re: edu-ma-cate the mot man ..
it's a van caliper, the dust cover didn't come off in one piece bmc. the rubber was welded onto the outside edge of the caliper face where the dust cover sits. if the old dust cover remnants don't come off, the new dust cover won't make a good enough seal, and salt water/contaminants can get into the piston face, and maybe even the caliper bore!

oh no bmc, standard brakes on the moggie, the van calipers are for a van, you should have seen the brown sludge in the piston bores, people should take these things off and clean them up once a year along with a change of fluid!
Re: edu-ma-cate the mot man ..

If you have dismantled a brake caliper - you MUST use new seals............

Re: edu-ma-cate the mot man ..
absolutely. the new seals are soaked in brake fluid and in.
the dust covers are another story. they have these metal rings inside, that the old ones didn't have and the old ones stayed on ok, albeit one melted a bit. one of the dust covers won't go on, there's like 1.5 mm too small, there's no give in them, therefore can't warm them up in some water etc, i am going to get onto the shop tomorrow about them, i actually think they might be for different calipers. they fit over the pistons, but not over the outer bore.
