Car rollers.
I need to tip my car on it's side so that I can do the welding needed underneath.Buying an expensive roller for one job is a no no,so I intend to make one.I can get the metal tube curved at a friend's workshop but need to work out the measurements.Does anyone know of some plans I could buy or copy?Paul
Re: Car rollers.
Just work with a radius from the hub centre to the ground same as if the car was sitting on it's wheels. About 18" - maybe slightly less. I made a crude one from angle iron - yet to be tested in anger - but I can't access the pics at the moment.

Re: Car rollers.
Just a thought and apologies if it's been covered before, but how about doing a spit type thing through the hole in the bulkhead and just making a frame for it to pass through in the boot area. that was the route i was going to take with mine as that way it keeps the suspension free and isnt putting any stress on the bumper mounts.

where are you based?
Does your local branch have one available or a local member have one you can borrow?

Re: Car rollers.
Thanks for the info everyone.I wondered about going through the car with a long tube,as on a Mini jig I have seen advertised on eBay but decided that with the engine and gearbox still fitted I would need a huge tube that would be too big to handle.Cheers Paul.
Re: Car rollers.
Spit would really only work with bare shell. Some make a roller-over jig that bolts to the bumper fixings - but of course that relis on the metal being good in those areas! And again - it's a lot to ask with engine/box still in place. I think I would be removing them before doing any rolling over work........

Re: Car rollers.
I started to make some rollers then saw a set for sale on eBay.When I collected them I found that they were an original Mr.Grumpy set.I remember his adverts in Minor Matters but it seems a long time ago. They look very strong, plenty heavy enough for my Minor project. As my workshop is not large enough to roll a car over the welding will have to be done outside so I don't think that I shall be doing it for a while yet.Perhaps I shall have a practice "roll" to see how they work.Cheers Paul
Re: Car rollers.
Well done - post up some pictures of the roller - and the car being rolled, please!

Re: Car rollers.
Why not put some industrial castors on it?
Then you could push it back into the garage out of the weather.
