Security advice please

Post by Peetee »

I will shortly be moving to an address on a through road in the city and the convertible will be out the front on an ungated drive.
Can anyone recommend a visible or physical imobiliser that will deter the opportunist?
I had considered a security post. Any thought/experiences on these please?
Answers by PM please.
Thanks

I've tried a few deterrent measures for my Traveller (and wasted a fair bit of money). I finally settled on a very large yellow security lock that sticks out like the proverbial sore-thumb on the steering-wheel. It came from Halfords and cost about £30ish, and there is a super-dooper one for a few more £s which sports a bright flashing light.

Working on the principal that visibility is the most important element of deterrent one of these may be the best way to go. I would post a pic but the little treasure is away being Dinitrolled at present.

As it's your own front-drive you could fit a movement-activated security light to the front of the house too to back this up.

Good luck, and if you find something even better I'd be interested to read about it.

:)

Leave it where it is at the moment? Its not like it'll be a long walk

Drive post would be good, as would the steering wheel lock (to prevent oppertunists) but as always, if someone is determined it will be gone.

Ironically it has two garages. The original one is at the back and partially blocked by the kitchen extension (gap is about 1ft too narrow  )The other garage will have the traveller in until it is restored. After that they will take turns.

If I could just repeat, for reasons of confidentiality and the security of our cars, could I have suggestions by PM please.

You're not being helpful you lot. When the car gets nicked I shall be doing a virtual whip-round.

Take the wheels off and leave it on bricks... make it look like someone has done it already

A lockable post sounds like a good plan though

I'm not about to discuss what I have fitted on an open forum I'm afraid.

A highly visible CCTV camera on the house pointed at the car?

An RFID chip in the car with a reader in the garden wall that sets off an alarm in the house if the car goes out of range?
There are more ways to move cars than driving them unfortunately.

Have a switch under the dash that connects the brake lights to a horn in the boot. Every time they stop at a junction it will beep loudly enough for people to take notice of who the driver is that is "beeping them" and thus they'll either abandon the car or get recognised.

Piece of tubing under the back of the seat rail, a 12-bore shotgun blank (no licence required?) and a short nail? :D
