Waxstat Carbs

Post by jaguar68 »

Hi Guys,

What is the general feeling regarding Waxcap carbs? The HS4 carb I have is a waxstat type and I'm looking for general opinions.

Cheers

Can be problematic and not as reliable as non waxstat types.

The carb I have for sale here http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=35747 was the waxstat type but I converted it to the non waxstat. The reason for this is a bit vague but it never ran quite right, bit lumpy like there wasn't enough fuel being delivered. Once I converted it it was so much better. This may have been completely unrelated but something worked.

Can't vouch for SU type but my experience of Pierburg waxstat carbs is not favourable. In 'partial choke' operation they were all-or-nothing for power, making it difficult to pull away from junctions and with a tendancy to stall when the clutch was engaged.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

My TR7 has the waxstat HS6 carbs - absolutely no problems whatsoever. Passes emissions without any problem and gives decent mpg if driven 'sensibly'. I believe they can be converted using 2 X penny coins if you so wish - but if it's working ok , just use it as intended!
