Wanted Series MM Engine

Post by mike.perry »

Doed anyone know of a late side valve engine type USHM3 (the model with water pump or blanking plate) in any restorable condition? Squiggle is still looking for one as her only transport, apart from her bicycle, is off the road until she finds one.

I am also looking, but after Squiggle of course, as mine is still running .Were there not a large number of spare parts for sale in elther Australia or New Zealand and would the club spares be interested in shipping a container load of spares over .As shipping a container would be cheaper than one item

Is the engine totally irrepairable?

Ian, Bryan keeps a check on spares availability in Aus/NZ and does ship back the occasional crate, but I think that it would take a long time to organise.

Judge, A repair to the block is one of the options being looked at. I see no reason for the centre water passage as there is no corresponding hole in the gasket or head so I would have thought that the hole could be filled in which would strengthen a repair to the crack between the hole and the stud. But I am no expert on metal repairs.

Many thanks to all those who offered. An engine has been purchased and Squiggle should be mobile in due course.

Hey......I didn't know you were all talking about me behind my pixels

Really grateful.

Yes I ended up finding one 5 miles from home.

So I'm following up the other leads for anyone else and so far:

Have pm'd Ian about a later 918cc one as he requested. Hoping he'll let us know if he doesn't want it.

Morris Minor World in Manchester [0161 861 8559] have an complete earlier 918cc engine for £250. Not sure if the price is negotiable and the say it's in a good condition. Bottom end conversion kits for £30

Waiting for news on another complete engine and another block...

Treasure hunting is fun!

Hi Ian

You might want to wait till I speak to the other engine owner at 6pm today before making a decision.

I'll pm you with his details after I've spoken to him.

Then you can let this thread know which one you don't want.

Oh this is fun. Feels like Christmas

That reminds me.....

Looking for parts for my bicycle soon!

'Vintage' [?] Ladies 10 speed Black Diamond, Falcon will need a replacement rear wheel soon. I'm told the hubs aren't made anymore but are really worth preserving.

It's certainly not concourse condition but has weathered the London 2 Brighton cycle run twice.

Apparently the other engine is posing some questions as to what it is exactly. I will know more soon hopefully.

Thanks everyone for lots of support - Squiggle's original engine is now back in, and subject to fitting carb, dizzy and waterworks it should be up and running soon!
