I know the firing order is 1342 and it is anticlockwise the leads come out of the top of the dizzy cap, so how do I determine which one goes where. I am on my two rest days Friday and Saturday so I would like to get the old girl fired up this weekend as the engine is now back in the car. ThanksPlug Leads

Plug Leads
Just one simple question. I have lost my bit of paper showing me which lead goes to which plug having took them off to replace them with new ones I know I should of done one lead at a time at a time. I know the firing order is 1342 and it is anticlockwise the leads come out of the top of the dizzy cap, so how do I determine which one goes where. Remove the rocker cover and turn the engine over by hand so that the timing mark comes up to TDC with both No 1 cylinder valves closed, that is the compression stroke.
When at TDC look at the rotor arm. It will be nearest to 1 on the distributor cap. Then go anticlockwise, as you said, 1-3-4-2

Just do it trial and error! Statistically - you should get it right by the third attempt! A lot quicker than messing about with the rocker cover........

Have to agree! The rubbish leads I bought a while back came off while I was messing with the car at the side of the road (condenser had failed) no way was I taking the rocker cover off there. Okay, point taken, so without removing the rocker cover, at TDC the rotor will point to 1 or 4, that way you will get it by the second attempt!

And whats the valve clearance on both inlet and outlet if I want to run it on unleaded. It is not an unleaded head, but i,m sure I have read somewhere to run it on unleaded you only need to adjust the tappets. I,m getting there slow but sure.
