Melted wires ?

Post by david t »

:-? Working on my sons 1000 saloon 1961 was in the process of rerouting the harness from under the car to inside,to keep it out of the weather.Cut the harness at the rear and pulled it to the front ,thats when i saw that the section witch passes the clutch pedal had melted together.The red wire had melted to the others.The copper wires had green corrotion on them witch would point to damadge beeing done over a period of time? We bought this car as a project so we havent had it on the road yet so the questions i would like help with are;

If i replace the wires from front to back will it hapen again ? :roll:

what do you think may have caused this ? :-?

Do i need to worry about anthing? :wink:

If the back lights worked then it is an old fault that has caused the insulation to melt. The red wires are not fused and a fault will just melt the wires rather than blow a fuse. If you just renew the offending wires then you have nothing to worry about. Encase the new wires in some form of protective sleeving even if running them inside. If you run wires inside the car and they burn it will set fire to the carpets.
This site is good for wiring products.

They are nothing to do with me but I have used them many times.

Nothing too serious there, so well done - but you are entitled to a free re-test any way within 10 days - even if you take the car away and fix the problems yourself.
