Trying to Trace SLP181F

Post by darkdesigner »

Hi Everyone.
I owned this lovely van for 11 years and covered a massive number of very happy miles. Sold it to what was then Oakdale Autoweld in Manchester in the mid 90's when I went through a bad patch and had no choice but to sell her.
I've seen a string on the forum from 2004 saying she's still on the road.
Can anyone offer an update. I'd love to meet up with the current owner and see her again.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

The usual check with the DVLA vehicle enquiry says that 'the date of liability' is 01 01 2011, so it's most likely still on the road.

Hi Matt.
Yes I fitted the 1275 midget engine. I'd bought David Vizard's A-series book and set about tuning it up on a shoestring. It was surprising what you can achieve by porting the head yourself, modding the carbs and choosing the right manifolds and exhaust. At one point I splashed out on a rolling road session and they recorded 85BHP at the engine. That combined with the van's low differential used to give people a shock setting off from traffic lights in their XR3's and 205GTIs. The main reason for the 1275 was I travelled back and forth to London every few weeks to see my family and it was more comfortable with motorway speeds.
POMMReg- thanks for the info. That would seem to indicate it's still in Richard Yates' hands after I sold it to Oakdale Autoweld in manchester. He worked there at the time and intended to restore her as the chassis and mechanicals were great but the rear body was suffering the usual van ailments and ideally it needed new side panels.
Might try to track him down so I can see how she's looking.
Thanks for the help.
Cheers DD.
