Minors, Alternative Power.

Post by SGTBILKO »

Some of you may have noticed a steam powered Minor pick-up for sale on Ebay recently. Somebody will maybe give you the link (I am no good at it), the item number is 300483107530. Has anybody thought about electric powered Minors?
I see that a company with a fleet of Citroen 2CVs (some would say a sort of French Morris Minor), who specialises in driving tourists round Paris, has spent 20.000 Euros on building an electric powered 2CV. Obviously the famous distinctive noise of the two cylinder motor is missing but you can still hear the brakes.

Need to sell the wife though to pay for it - and she's away in Canada for a month......
In Canada a while back there was a Company converting Renault Dauphines to electric power........
And indeed - seems there was even one way back in 1959! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henney_Kilowatt

I've toyed with the idea of someday converting my Minor over to an electric motor, but it's tricky. Such motors do not easily replace gasoline engines -- few electric cars have a single powertrain, instead having separate motors for each axle or wheel -- and you'd almost have to design your own to fit properly. Obviously it COULD be done, but with a vast stock of electronics knowledge, lots of experimentation time and money, and a few prayers.

Now if someone marketed a motor that would easily swap into an internal-combustioned car's engine bay...that might be a winner...

Its been around for many years this truck. Featured in one of the Minor books (forget which one) in the early 90s Ithink, then it cropped up at an auction in Cambridgeshire about 6 or 7 years ago. I was rather tempted then - less so at £14000 though....
cheers
