A certain well know high street car part and bike retailer has a sale on right now and the tool storage chests have 1/3 off.
Something I always promised myself.
Verrrry tempting I must say.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
If it's Hellfrauds - you can probably still get them elsewhere for half their sale price......... Never seen the point of these things myself - I carry my tools in the car with me.

Perhaps you would if you had car tools and bike tools and were as hopelessly disorganised as me. As an example, I worked out the other day (on the throne probably), that in any given hour working on the car I spend 3 minutes weilding a tool, 2 minutes slurping tea and crunching biscuits and then 55 minutes trying to find the damn tool again.

I have a theory that the martians borrow my tools and then put them back later. I have no other credible explanation. Last week I used my pliers, put them down, they disappeared, eventually got another pair out the tool box, and the next day spotted the first pair sat in clear view on top of my toolbox!
This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.
I bought something similar a while ago and I'm very happy with it.
3 drawers, one each for Whitworth, AF and Metric then pliers, ratchets etc in the top and screwdrivers in the half width tray under the lid.
Working on the Minor, the Metric drawer doesn't even get opened, working on the Honda or the Mercedes and the other two stay shut.
A bit of paint to colour code everything, and putting stuff back in the right drawer is a cinch.
I commend it to the house.

So - each time you want a tool - you have to wriggle out from under - stagger over to the tool chest - retrieve the spanner - and then back under ?? I just have metric in one tool roll, 'Imperial' in another, and AF in another. Sockets on racks - and 'large tools' (not often used) in a tool box and 'special tools' (spring compressors - clutch puller - ball joint splitter - hub puller etc etc)in another tool box. A handy selection in a small tool box carried in each car completes the set! Most jobs are done using the on-board tools.

like you i have three spanner rolls etc. but they are all stored in the tool chest next to my bench so they are to hand when working at the bench. The top half containing the more popular tools comes off and can sit on the floor next to me when working on \ under the car. When i have finished (or even half way through the job) i can then quickly clean and tidy all my tools away into the correct draws ready for next time. The top half can also be locked, to stop the draws opening, to sit in the boot when i want to take a lot of tools somewhere but when popping out for five minutes my boot is empty. I bought my tool chest during the last halfords sale having checked that the sale price was a sale price and not a pre "sale" inflated price and am very happy.
having checked that the sale price was a sale price and not a pre "sale" inflated price
I'm very wary of this sort of retailing. I never assume sales are full of bargains. I always examine the 'normal' price and make my mind up if it's a reasonable price to pay or not.

I just rely on the pyramid pile princepal thats means everything is in one pile in the garage, however like Roger I have a problem but not with Martians its the little people as the pyramid not only moves it changes shape as well, oh well lets have another cuppa.
Cheers
