Re: What did you drive in 1985
Such a long time ago!
I had a beautiful two-year old MkII Granada 2.8i Ghia X, ex civil service car in black; it was a SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) car, as attested by a mysterious plate under the bonnet; I think it was that black was generally not offered to Joe Public then, it also had useable reading lamps in the back, Chatsworth trim and lashings of fake wood! It was the first 'decent' car I owned, and was fitted with a very useful on-board computer that constantly reminded me how many miles I was getting to the gallon, usually about 25; but with the aircon on and a bit of effort i could get that down to around 18..... Sorry tree-huggers, green I ain't!!!!
I also had a 1958 Vauxhall Cresta that looked gorgeous but contained enough fibreglass to build a whole Reliant Robin!

An old Carlton racing bike which I'd converted to a touring bike and upgraded from 10 to 15 speed. CTC 30 to 50 miles every Sunday... ah those were the days.

Re: What did you drive in 1985
Maroon 2 door Morris Minor saloon (TUR 681J). My first ever car paid for with my own cash (previously borrowed my father's moggy van). Bought 1981, restored & resprayed, later used as my wedding car in 1987

I'd just got my first company car, and given the work's van back.
It was a Rover I think it was called a Monte-stop - something like that anyway!

I was riding my Vespa px125 or my Lambretta Li150 to Scooter rallies all over the uk.Followed by my mate in his trusty back up moggy van.Which 3 of us used to sleep in,in the back. While my mate slept in the front.Stuck my scooter in the back for a lift home in torrential rain one rally.

No digi pics, but have some photos some place.simon68 wrote:That Magnum sounds nice.Any pics?
The 'Ecosse' was a conventional Magnum 2300 estate (SMT garages - Perth being their main depot) with a Blydenstein stage 4 head and cam and possibly uprated suspension - mine was on bilsteins. Most were Maroon with 'Magnum Ecosse' signwritten on rear quarter. It was a really quick car (for it's day), handled well and being the estate was really practical.
A guy local to me had one that was in as new condition, but it was in an orangey yellow colour - I was totally envious of it, but by the time he decided to sell I'd moved on to V8 Rover P6's.
