gearbox anti-rattle

Post by sidsmith »

:-? :-? Hi all, I have just been to the MM centre , oldbury to get some parts to stop my gear leaver rattling when i'm driving along. The parts I bought were :- Plunger control shaft damper, Spring, spring retaining cap. What I would really like to know is. is it possible to take the gear leaver rubber cover off and change the ant-rattle without taking the gearstick out. I'm trying to gen up on this as I do with other jobs before I start messing and find i've cocked it up somewhere.
help would be appreciated Mungo :-? :-?

Think that you should remove the plunger before the gearstick to prevent the plunger and spring from ending up in the bowels of the remote mechanism and causing tears and wailing.

You may need to lift the tail of the remote mechanism to clear the plunger bolt-head from the transmission tunnel, I lever it upwards with a large screwdriver :D
