How do we organise a new stand at the National/ a new show?

Post by ratrodmog »

Some of you may have seen the thread emerging in the Custom & Modified section about organsing a custom stand at the National or a new custom Morris show. This isn't meant in any way to exclude anyone but we (as a group of custom mog owners) would like to represent our cars and give them more exposure than they are currently getting. So the idea is to either have a custom stand at the next National or to organise a complete custom Morris show.
So my question is
1. How can we put together a stand at th next National &
2. Does anyone know how to start organising a show?

There has been a lot of interest about this subject and the numbers of custom & modified Minors coming out of the woodwork has been huge recently so lets get this thing sorted. We would idealy like to hold the show somewhere with a track of some sort (hillclimb or circuit) or if the next National Rally could be somewhere with a track again that would be great.
Cheers guys & girls

Contact Andrew Stone as he organises the Nationals and should be able to offer some advice.

It might be worth contacting Julian (julesgti) who runs the Custom & Modified Register as he has previously asked for suggestions about rallies but didn't get much of a response. See this previous thread: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=28815

I'm not sure how active the Custom & Modified Register is at the moment but Club Registers are offered a spot on 'Branch Avenue' at the National so I'm sure the Register would be able to get a stand if there is enough support for one. By the way, there are always plenty of custom & modified cars at the National (and half of the cars on the website stand were modified or custom) so they do get a fair amount of exposure :D

Yes, I know how to organise a show having been on the Kent Branches Hop rally committee for several years now. If you want to learn what is involved in a car show, then via your local branch, volunteer to help on the area rally committee. You will learn all you need to know and there is a surprising amount, not least finding the venue and negotiating price and terms and what is and is not allowed etc...
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

How about having a basic 948cc or 1098cc car that has been referbished cheaply so 17year olds can see you have a cheap car with cheap Insurance that roadworthy.

Thanks for all the positive imput from everyone, it's good to know people are thinking along the same lines. In my head I have an image of a show that I would like to see and people lining up the modded cars would just be part of it. We need things like....
A race track to show what your car can do.
Various awards - show 'n' shine, fastest, best daily etc etc.
Trade stands from companies supplying custom parts and upgrades not just the standard stuff.

hotrodder13 - I will definately speak to Jono, cheers for that.
chickenjohn - I am part of my local branch (Dorsetmmoc) and will get in contact with them about this topic.
louiseM - I have spoken to Julian about this when I first had the idea a while ago so will contact him again and try and push this for the 2011 National.
Kevin - How do I get in contact with Andrew Stone as this could be a good way of letting them know what the plan is?

Cheers all :D

Hi Ratrod,
we have just started organising next years Hop rally, we have prize categories for "furthest travelled " and "best modified", we'd welcome a contingent of modified cars at our rally.

Any questions you have on organising a rally, feel free to PM me.

cheers

HI,

Your idea would fit in well with some of the things that we want to try at this years National Rally , can you send me an email to my MMOC address and I will call you shortly to discuss.

Many thanks
