Re-fit Windows or Headlining First.

Post by Rustaddict »

After 6 years of cutting, welding & getting filthy I have just re-sprayed my 56 series II 2 door minor & I am now at the stage where I would like to re-fit the windows, but I also need to replace the headlining.
Funds don't permit buying the headlining at the moment as I have just ordered new window rubbers, so my question is should I hold off the window fitting until the headlining is fitted or can I press on with the window fitting & fit the headlining later.
Any tips on fitting the split windscreen, after a quick search of the forum it looks like I should assemble everything to the rubber then assemble that to the car, is this still the recommended way of doing things.

Thanks.

You should be able to fit the windscreen and rear side windows before the headliner but the headliner goes under the rear screen rubber so best done after.....

It will depend on what type of headling it is, if its the fabric one held in by hoops and wire the rear screen has to be out, my 56 has a hardboard type headboard that is fitted in 4 sections, 2 narrow ones on each side a big one in the middle and a finisher around the back screen. The hard board type is held up by the back screen rubber.

I have fitted the split screen the assembled a couple of times and reckon its the best way to go.

Post up some pics of your car to show us your progress!!

Here is some piccies of the progress on my car, all the work has been done in my garage at home inc spray job, the paint will never win concourse but it looks a lot smarter than it did.Its moved on a bit from these piccies, the doors are fitted up wings fitted, bonnet & boot mounted. but I have lost all the chrome for around the front grill & the bonnet slam panel, any one got any spares?
Its now got a 1275 with twin carbs, 1000 gearbox & servo'd brakes so it should go ok.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]
