traffic jams

Post by markthe45king »

i know we have had this discussion before, but i can't find it - but lilyb has got a bit precious about having cars around her it seems.

Every time we are stuck in traffic she idles then dies, unless you give her some revs - and if she is sitting in neutral or in gear doesn't matter much (although she dies slower in neutral). This, whilst amusing for other drivers, is becoming a little worrying, particularly when she threatens not to start again. And i'm getting a little paranoid about sitting there revving like a boy racer! Oh and both the red and orange light come on during the death throes......

The petrol pump does seem to be ticking faster than it used to be, but is less than a year old. Additionally, she seems a bit sluggish until she hits 50, and sounds noisier than she did - and i know how we like detail here so she actually sounds throatier, particularly on gear changes - i think the clutch is going a bit - so could that noise be clutch related?

so two problems there i think - i throw myself open to your usual helpfulness and guidance!!

General tune-up I think! Raise the idle speed slightly - and avoid traffic jams.

The reason for it happening quicker when in gear is that the clutch is a mechanical one and therefore the revs drop when in gear quite normally so make sure its adjusted correctly, and as suggested is sounds like the carb needs a tune up and if your pump is ticking more than normal check that your float chamber has not got a small leak caused by a sticky float valve.
