small paintwork repairs

I did some small repairs to some damaged paintwork on the body...

Sanded back to bare metal, applied Isopon filler, smoothed out, primed & top coated, blended in to surrounding paintwork.
Spent many hours doing it.

It was my first ever attempt to do the job properly & although not perfect I felt that it was not bad at all.

However, that was a few weeks back & now I see that there are hairline cracks in the topcoat just around each area, as if the filler has contracted.

Should I have waited for some time after filled applied before painting? Does it contract? Any suggestions?

It has to be very thinly applied- and properly sanded back DRY to blend it in to the bodywork. The filler should NOT get wet.

Aaaaah!

I used wet & dry, but WET.

Depth was no more than 2 or 3mm.

I'll need to do it again, or at least the cracks
