i have tried adjusting them and tried starting it it fires up with the choke and the cuts out even if i release the choke.

did you let it warm up before turning the choke off :wink:
freshly painted 1275cc anda very loud big bore exhaust

I don't get this - just lift the revs with the throttle screw and the mixture screw and get it running!

Does the piston rise and fall ? Pour some petrol down the carb throat - and crank it - does it run ?

yes the piston rises and every thing and i have done that and it just wont go

Well - if it 'won't go' with petrol down the carb - the problem is electrical. OR - you have completely flooded it - remove plugs - spin the engine over for 10 seconds - fit a different set of plugs.
