Also if anyone has a "water-elbow" (mine has one thread stripped and a straight replacement would be better than rethreading and I guess a new water pump might be a good idea although the existing looks OK.[frame]

Fiat 2L Twin Cam
Attached picture of my beautiful Twin Cam almost refurbished, however can anyone help me with advice on changing the oil filter which needs to be horizontal not vertical in order to fit in the pick up chassis.

Re: Fiat 2L Twin Cam
For a horizontal filter you need a housing from a traverse engine such as a Regata or Strada.
Re: Fiat 2L Twin Cam
Or alternatively have a look here:
http://www.thinkauto.com/takeoff.htm
for a remote takeoff kit Eg Type H.

Re: Fiat 2L Twin Cam
I have bought a Type H from ThinkAuto and it needs 2.5" clearance at the engine end. I only have about 2" at the moment. Maybe a silly question but can I turn the original oil filter head upside down and fit the type H on the top?

Re: Fiat 2L Twin Cam
I think it's non-symmetrical inside but whether it would still work, I don't know. Just remembered, on mine there was a square spigot on the bottom so you could spanner/unspanner the fitting. I cut this off and use a chain-based oil filter removal tool to fit/remove. That would buy you a bit of space. I'll try to get a pic of mine today as I think I have the same engine mounts as you.reprs wrote:I have bought a Type H from ThinkAuto and it needs 2.5" clearance at the engine end. Re: Fiat 2L Twin Cam flywheel
Thanks dp will try it out. Would you happen to know which way round a flywheel should be fitted to a 2L twin cam. There are obviously two ways up and I don't have any markings on the flywheel which has now been skimmed to take off the rust. I have fitted the way I think it should be but can't find any pictures anywhere, only a description that the marking should be at the top when 1 & 4 are TDC. I have attached a picture of mine fitted...[frame]

Re: Fiat 2L Twin Cam
Re Remote oil filter take-off, pictures as previous post. There's 1cm clearance, it has been like that for years and never touched the body. However, my oil filter mount is from a Lancia engine so may be different to yous.

As for the flywheel it will fit either way but only one way will be in balance with the crank. Unless you can see some kind of mark to show how it was before you should really balance the crank and flywheel together. Perhaps, since the flywheel was ground, you need to balance it with the crank attached now anyway. I don't know but you could ask on the Guy Croft site or http://www.turbo124.com/forum/
Sorry I can't advise more than that.

Re: Fiat 2L Twin Cam Timing Belt
Can anyone enlighted me as to the number of teeth required on a 2L twin cam timing belt. Engine number is 132 DB 2A. I have a belt with 144 teeth but I think it needs 148? Thanks

Re: Fiat 2L Twin Cam
According to Guy Croft website, 148 teeth for 2 litre

Re: Fiat 2L Twin Cam
Hi,
The flywheel should have a small dimple drilled into it on the clutch side, approx 8mm in diamter, The dimple is deep enough to withstand a skim and still be visable. The dimple is the balancing reference point in relation to the crank.
When fitted the dimple should be at the top of the flywheel, 12 o clock. It should be in this position when 1and 4 are TDC.
Hope this helps
Keith

Thanks, this is how it is fitted with 1 and 4 at tdc at the moment. Is this wrong then?

Re: Fiat 2L Twin Cam
Doesnt look correct, but then the photo is not clear enough fo me to say 100%. but you should find that there is a definite dimple drilled into the face. It is only appox 3-4 mm deep and 8-10 mm diameter not drilled all the way through, If you remove the flywheel and maintain 1 and 4 TDC then just offer up the flywheel and rotate it till the dimple is at 12 o clock. There shoud be only one mark that lines up cos thats how they mark it when balancing the crank.
Hope this helps
