Eye bolt pin length

Post by pickupsi »

Hi, I'm a new member here and I hope someone can help me out?

I just got a pickup which I'm putting back together, this is my second moggie, my first was a 2 door about 17 years ago which I gave a full resto, I've a similar plan for this one, but first I must finish my capri, so just looking to get the pickup on the road for a year or so.

Anyway, could someone please be able to tell me the correct length of an eye bolt pin please, mine seems a bit short and when tightening it crushes the front bush as it tries to pull the front arm up tight to the eye bolt, the rear bush is nicely located, the bushes look to fit fine, maybe I'm being a bit silly ?

Hi

I have just bought new eye bolt pins for my minor. They are the same pin as the rear spring shackles. They are from end to end 7.5 cm or 3 inches in length. Hope you get it sorted.

Hi That is the total length of the pin, the shoulder is 4.5 cm or 1+3/4 inches in length.

It may be that the car has had new chassis legs fitted at some point - and if the eyebolt has ended up slightly (even 1/4") forward of where it should be - the effect you describe above could easily occur. You could try to pull the torsion bar through the rear reaction arm slightly (and add washers behind) until the bushes sit nicely.

Thank you all for your replies.
I will have a good look at the weekend and see what's going on, if I remember correctly the bush still wanted to crush even if I didn't fit the torsion bar, testing it out with just the cup washer on that end and the 2 arms, nuts etc., however I do suspect the cross member has been replaced in the past. the only other thing that's crossed my mind is if pickup/van eye bolts are wider? that could also explain what's going on.
many thanks to you all again.
