front panle this time

i need to replace my grill, i can see the bottom bolts but do i need to take the rad out to be able to remove the top chrome

I recently had to take the front panel off of my 1960 saloon and i had to take the radiator out to alow me to get the panel off. it isn't that hard to get the radiator off just undo all the hoses and then undo the bolts easy, if i can do it im sure you can to.[frame][/frame]

thanks, how long did it take cause i need to use the car to get to college on thursday , im not putting the chrome back on just the grill

You can get the rad out in about an hour. Just be careful that the screwdriver doesn't slip when you undo the jubilee clips on the bottom hose. I had this happen to me and put the blade straight through the core!To make matters worse, it wasn't even my car, I was doing someone a favour.......

The very rusty panel you show is not the 'grill' (sic) - it is the 'front panel' (actually in two parts) and is held by a row of bolts/nuts along the lower edge - and the hockey-stick fixings also hold it - and then bolts/nuts at the top into the wings/inner and outer. The radiator fixes to the front panel with 4 special screws.
Within the front panel is the GRILLE - flat bars horizontally across the opening in the front panel.

The front panel and grille comes off without removing the radiator. Remove 4 bolts securing the radiator to the inner front panel. Remove bumper, and undo the bolts accross the bottom of the front panel. Remove 2x hockey sticks. Then remove split pin from bonnet pull rod and lastly 4x bolts securing the front panel to the inner wings. The complete front panel and grille comes away making it easier to split into parts. See my resto page 3 and it will show the front panel and grille in bits. If all the bolts come out ok the whole job start to finish should take around 1 hour.

cheers for that but i need the rad out as ive just found out i need to repair my rad panel as well

The method above leaves the rad hanging on the hoses - not necessarily the best idea..........

got quite a bit done 2night but i was wondering, the bit that the front panel bolts onto the bottom is a bit knacked, can i get a repair panel for it or do i just a bit of new metal on cut to shape
