Traveller window channels

I am replacing the felt channels on the rear (sliding) windows of Horace. The old ones are out and i have replacements but they are a U section and the woodwork has a narrower channel below where these would fit. Is this for drainage?
Also the channel kit i bought has enough section for both sides. there are two pieces rolled up that appear to be slightly different - although it could be the difference between batches. Should all the channel be the same; top sides and bottom?

The channel below is for drainage and should have holes to let the water out about every 6 or 8' along the length of the rail. Make sure they are clear of any debrsi, fungus moss !!!! while you have the channel out, you should be able to poke a screw driver down the holes easily.

Im not sure about the two types of channel, sometimes you get the outer lower channel with a stainless edge on it and the one on the inside just plain black.

The black rail can be used all the way around if you want, but normally there is a long rail with a stainless edge that runs along the full length of the center rail on the outside. Then the inner rail (for the rear window) and the rest of the way round is all in the black. There is no diffrence in the black rail top and bottom, it is probably a diffrence in batches, i had the same thing on mine but it all looks the same when fitted.

Thanks for the help.The channel is clear although there is some rot in there which is unfortunate as when the car first arrived the wood appeared to be rot free. I will give it a few days to dry out any dampness then the drain holes (which are already clear - but were stuffed with paper!!) will be taped over at the bottom and filled with wood preserver so it can soak in.
