having broken the bleed nipple off in one of my riley cylinders, how can i remove the broken bit from the cylinder?

drill it out a bit then use an easy out.

Gang warily.........if you manage to snap the 'easy-out' in the bleed nipple it will become ten times more difficult to remove the wretched thing! If you use too small an 'easy out' they break really easily (esp the Chinese ones!!) and if you drill too large and then use a larger 'easy out' it tends to swell the hollow shaft of the nipple - making it grip the walls of the threaded hole ever more tightly. I suggest applying heat and good penetrating oil and perhaps gently trying a small 'easy out' . If it doesn't come easily (!) - then I honestly suggest just carefully drilling away in small stages at the sheared nipple until it all 'shells' away - then tidy up the thread with a new 3/8" UNF tap - and of course check the taper seat in the hole is clear and undamaged.
