Devon mechanic?

Post by ljmorris »

Hello. I've recently moved to Dartmouth in South Devon and wondered if anyone could recommend a good, honest mechanic/garage in the local area? Preferably someone who won't take advantage of the fact that I'm a female classic car owner with a limited degree of mechanical knowledge. Many thanks!

Nice place to move to.
The Devon branch meets in Exeter so there might not be local knowledge of Dartmouth. It is an opportunity for you to get to know what happens under the bonnet with the aid of a Workshop Manual

It might be a little out of your range, but I can highly recommend Gilmax Classic Cars.

They are at Lords Meadow Industrial Estate, Crediton. The owner restores classic cars and I believe they have a mechanic with Morris Experience working for them.

Tel 01363 776683

I don't know if Russel is too far away for you - but he comes highly recommended - several on here have used his services to put right the horror repairs of other Companies..........
RTG SERVICES
MORRIS MINOR SPECIALIST
MOBILE SERVICING, WELDING AND MECHANICAL REPAIRS
All work undertaken from a full rebuild to a service.
All work carried at £25 per hour.
Full service including Engine oil and filter, gearbox oil, axle oil spark plug points condenser air filter, suspension greased and ignition timing £140.
Also available is a vehicle inspection service. Morris minors can hide a multitude of sins! You can save yourself a lot of money and time with a thorough inspection. And dont be caught out by unscrupulous sellers. I can also inspect engines and gearboxes that have allegedly been rebuilt For more details on this service call or email.
TEL. 07981 002991 between 8am and 8pm 7 days a week for more info.
I have had a few calls and people have been asking what experience I have ? Well I was given my first morris minor when I was 3 years old ! and have been working on them ever since. I personally have owned over 50, I have worked for a well known Morris Minor restorer but I left as I was not happy with the way they worked. Since leaving I have been working on them in my own time.
Please note a full service will include
Engine oil and filter change, Gearbox oil change, Rear axle oil change, All grease points greased, Points, condenser, rotar arm, distributor cap, spark plugs and air filter changed, Engine timing checked and adjusted if needed.
Please note this WILL ALL be done.
I have been asked if i work on other types of classic cars?. This is possible so long as you have the workshop manual for your car. Also if you just need an extra pair of hands working on your car get in touch.

I am Bristol based but I will travel anywhere within the mainland of the UK for longer jobs. I will only travel a maximum of an hour from my home to carry out a service for the above price any further and aditional charges will be added
