It matters not where on the dizzy number 1 is AS LONG as the rotor arm is pointing to it at TDC then go round anti clockwise from there.....

Dear All,

I think you have found the problem.
I have been given some duff info by a mechanic, or I have misunderstood what he said. It was a long time ago I guess.

I will put the new data you've kindly given into force asap.

Set TDC, whichever lead the rotor arm is pointing to is Number 1.
Follow the Dissy anti clockwise in the order 1342.
I will update and let you know of progress.

Thank you, thank you so much for your time and effort.
It IS deeply appreciated.

I'm so glad i'm a MMOC member!!!!

Thats almost the exact same problem thay folks here helped me with earlier this year! Had leads in wrong order and rotor pointing to wrong place. Was amazed that it managed to fire on 1 or 2 cylinders and it just got more exciting as after help it fired on all 4! :D :D

My car is a 62 948cc and my dizzy is the same as your diagram, 1 at the bottom.
But I stress, TDC shown at the pulley can be cylinder 1 OR cylinder 4 so make sure, by looking at the valves, that you have it at TDC for cylinder 1.

And - the dizzy can be assembled 180 degrees out - which is why, way back in this thread, I asked you to check for a spark AT #1 plug WHEN the valves are closed and it is at TDC! There is no other way to know FOR SURE that you have the correct lead on the correct plug at the right time!
