fine tuning the pick up running

Post by horrace »

horrace seems to be running ok now, what id like to achieve is a little quieter running at about 60mph, i am happy with acceleration and top end but how can i get it so the engine is running not so high or smoother, will the vizard recs make these differences or will the diff change to a car or whatever one fits be the thing?

If you want less revs at cruising - then yes you must change the final drive ratio. It could be a 4.55 in a P-up - so even fitting a 4.22 will help - although obviously a 3.9 or even 3.7 will be better. It may not 'pull' the 3.7 well unless the engine is suitably uprated.

well i have a nice rebuilt 1098 with an uh and alternator other than that its all standard so id like to stick with that just probably do the vizard tweeks then and that should be ok with the 3.7 diff then ?

Depends which of Vizard's 'tweaks' you are considering!

Where does you exhaust exit?

If it's just outside the drivers window like on a van then a curved tip might help, but not as much as redoing it so it exits at the back.

i was just going for bolt on mods i.e air filter 1:5 carb wh inlet manifold and larger exhaust, but id like to hear from people that have had experience of doing the above? Markyb the exhaust exits by the door im not concerned about noise more that i want a happy engine thats not revving its nuts off!

Diff change it is then, A 4.22 should cost very little and help quite a lot.
