Replacing Track Rod Ends

Have had some shudders from the front end whe n braking hard and have a slight movement in front wheels from side to side - only very slight and no movement at all when trying to rock top to bottom. On inspecting the track rod ends the rubbers are not the best, and these are the original track rod ends (as far as I am aware). I found a nice new set on E-Bay including rubbers so grabbed them and wanted to ask about replacing them.

Were there any variances in these parts over the years? My car is 1953 series II (But with MM running gear, front axles, hubs etc). The new track rod ends are (I presume) suitable for use on 1000 etc. They have the grease nipples. Will they be suitable for my car?

Also, is it accurate enough to carefully count the turns when removing old ones then re-fit new ones with exactly same number of turns?

IF the thread is the same - and I have no idea about variations over the years - then just leave the lock nuts in place - unwind the old and wind on the new - then nip up the lock nuts again. It would be prudent to then do a track check - easy to do DIY.

There were two sizes of TRE, the 1098s had a larger diameter track rod. You will need a ball joint splitter to pull it off the steering arm. See earlier topic
