I certainly will wave. This is not my first classic - I've owned a Morgan 4/4, an MGC and a Midget and currently own a 1965 MGB Tourer which will keep the Traveller company.

I waved at a Traveller and a Minor-based Austin van in the B yesterday and got a very enthusiastic response from the green 1967/8 Traveller. It's interesting that old boys like me tend to be the wavers whilst younger classic car owners don't seem to be quite so keen.

Thank you for your welcome too. I will be using it frequently, I believe that they belong on the road and not in a museum.

So I take it from your post that the spirit is: 'If it still isn't working you haven't found a big enough hammer' ?

I'm what you'd call a young driver at 21 and I flash my lights/beep/wave to every classic car I see

I will give you a free advise: the bad thing is start to buy Morris Minor, you start with one and after when you land you have more than one.I start with a convertible 1969, 2 years ago and now I have 4!

It's a condition I caught way back in the eighties and I'm hoping that the 1965 MGB Roadster and the 1969 Morris Traveller will keep the cravings satisfied for a while.

I bought the MG 4 years ago and it took me 3 of them to turn it into a reliable and everyday usable car (not 3 years of work but little by little as time and funds allowed). I'm hoping that this Traveller will be good from the word go as she has been in everyday use with her previous owner.

I have also just joined the MMOC i have just bought a 1965 saloon that is in a very sad state it is my first project so i hope i can pick some brains .Is there any way of finding out some of the cars history the reg is BAN 715 C many thanks Brad[frame][/frame]

Well I collected the little gem today.

170 miles all told and no major problems except that the spare wheel was bouncing freely in its compartment and managed to disconnect the fuel gauge and brake lights in the process. Both now reconnected and the spare wheel secured. I'd asked to look at the spare and its compartment when viewing the car and it had not been put back properly.

There is a slight but persistent smell of petrol, which may have been caused when I filled the tank rather over-enthusiastically. There is no sign of dripping under the car with the ignition switched on and no sign of fuel leaking around the fuel pump, carburettor or pipework under the bonnet. Any ideas, you experienced owners?

The only other tiny niggle is that the rear doors won't lock, the barrel turns but the door opens whichever way the key is turned. Again, any advice anyone?

Apart from these little niggles I am absolutely delighted with this, my first Minor. I am surprised at how well it keeps up with traffic, despite being an original and unmolested 1098, and I didn't take long to get accustomed to the unassisted drum brakes and actually got to like the progressive control they give. I was prepared to be slightly disappointed and expected to feel the need for a 1275, but I am perfectly happy with the 1098.

And boy oh boy, that exhaust note, especially in over-run!

To sum up, I love it to bits already, it 'flew' along at 60 all the way home without complaint, kept up with traffic and turned heads. I even overtook a few lorries and a Mercedes 200 SLK (okay, so he was dawdling - but I punched the air!) the radiator was warm but not over-hot on arriving home and all is well with the world.

Now I know, first hand, why you love these cars.

Im glad your pleased with your new purchase, all my minors are standard and will stay that way!!

Chances are you wll need a new handle for the back doors, the wee bit that slides over to lock them is very small and prone to seizing up then breaking off when you try to use it. Good news is though that a new one is only about £25.00 and can be fitted with a screwdriver

As for the petrol fumes the gasket may be perished that seals the sender unit on the top of the tank, again cost a few pence and a screwdriver job! Do check firstly though that the big wire clips on the fuel neck are full tightened.
