Not sure what to do

I am thinking of selling my moggie, as i want another one (different style etc) - i have placed him up at £1k ono but not had any offers or even a sniff, here are some pictures, am i asking to much? or have i taken the "hot rod" effect to far? the car is taxed and mot'd until april. or should i just lay him up over the winter and give him a fresh look for next year?

Considering all you've done with the car, I think £1000 is certainly fair. Some may be put off by the hotroddiness (like myself, for instance, though I admit it has a certain charm ), but some will be drawn by it. Your car will sell.

Of course, if you've got the time and inclination, why not just redo the style on this one? The supply of originalish moggies is dwindling daily and you'll be out more than £1000 for a good new one.

My two pence worth would be lose the red, and the modern plates.
That would leave Black and Silver all over which, for my money, would look better.

Put standard wheels on the car, sell thoseon the car seperatly replace the bumpers. Hot Rod Minors have a smaller Market More people are looking for the Standard Look

I'am not to the morris world but I have to say I love the look of your car and think you should hang on in there for the money your asking.

I have just bought a morris for £300 and if I can get mine looking half as good as yours by the time i do all the rust - i would be chuffed to bits with it!

i am with markyb.. change the plates to black and silver

also either lose the wheels or paint them a different colour.. they "scream" a bit for my liking..

putting a buyers head on.. 5 new wheels/tyres are around 150 quid.. new plates are 30 quid ( sorry if this is not correct but I have not purchased plates in a long time ) round that up to 200 quid.. so I am gong to have to spend another 20% of the purchase price getting the car more to my taste.

Here's my two-penn'orth GDL, for what it's worth:

You may be 'falling between two stools'. You don't say what modifications you have made to the car. If it is pretty standard under the skin it will not interest the Hot-rodders and the external appearance will put-off the standard Minor fans.

If you have carried out extensive 'improvements' to the engine, transmission, brakes and suspension then are you advertising it in the right place? There are specialist Hot-rod magazines and websites which would be best.

If it is pretty standard underneath then I can only echo the advice to lose the wheels and number plates, but even then the matt black finish will not be to everyone's taste.

Good luck selling it though, patience may well be rewarded, even after what I've just said the right person may not have seen it yet.

This is the trouble with modifying!! You have personalised your car, much like the people on property development TV programmes who do up their projects to their own personal taste rather than neutral and then wonder why it won't sell!!

I would therefore echo the above comments to tone the car down and bring it back to standard as much as possible. Was the satin black paint applied over primer or straight over the original paint finish?? If it was only one thinnish coat over the original paint, you might be able to wet sand it off and get back to the original colour. I also think the car would sell better with original style plates and wheels and even putting the bumpers back on as well.

Certainly, lose the large cable ties sticking out the side of the car!

cheers for the response guys, some interesting thoughts there. Orginal numbers - already ordered. if the car doesn't sell (and to be honest - i haven't really pushed it for sale) i was planning to have a complete change around over the winter (still leaving the rear bumper off though) but putting a new colour(s) to him, plus a few other modifications.
I will keep you all posted.

If by different style you mean you're going to go for a van or traveller then by all means change but if you want the same body but a different style applied it's probably easier to stick with the devil you know and plan the changes accordingly. Otherwise you could be swapping one set of problems for another.

Is matt black paint always matt? or could you compound and polish it until its nice and shiney? I'm sure it would sell then!

I don't think you can polish matt/ satin paint as it does not contain the necessary varnishes to give it a shine.

It might help though to re-spray the car gloss black (BMC code BLK1) as long as the panels are straight and smooth- gloss black paint is very unforgiving. The trouble with matte black paint jobs is that they are sometimes done to hide poor prep/bent panels. Maybe folks think this is the case here and hence are not buying the car, or they just don't like the look.

You might be able to get an industrial gloss black colour in cellulose quite cheaply that is very close to the original BMC shade.

This colour was only a temporary one, as i fancied it at the time, and when a van i wanted was up for sale by me i decided to test the "for sale" water, slightly!
However what i am most likely to do over the winter is change the colour to a dark blue, and having my wheels dipped, or buying some new ones (Marina wheels with minor centres, same bloke selling his van can do this for me aswell) which is what i wanted to do originally, but my money was spent elsewhere

The marina wheels will not fit unless you have marina / ital running gear as they are 3.75 inch pcd not the 4inch of the moggy
