What does it mean when it says ' one private message has been removed due to private message filters' - I thought they were completely private - and no-one could read them ??

In the private messages area, click the rules folders and settings. Then have a look to see if you have any filters set up that automatically delete messages.

There aren't! it's simply that when the box is full it deletes the oldest messages automatically unless you sepecifically mark them to be saved.
