Restoration Recommendation

Post by AndrewW »

I have a seriously wet Traveller and it looks like it's mainly coming in through the LHS top rail just aft of the door pillar. There is some nasty rot in there. :-(

It might be time to get some light restoration done on the car. Most of the rest of the wood and underside is good and it runs well though the paint is shabby - I am in SE London. I don't have the time or facilities (or the skill) to undertake any serious work myself. Can anyone recommend a reliable restorer within a reasonable distance? There are a few firms around the local area advertising in Minor Matters and others.

Take your Traveller to 2 or 3 restoration companies and ask for their advice on what work is required. Also ask for a written estimate for the work they recommend and an approx timescale for when they can start the work and how long it might take to complete. Once work has started ask them to call you if they find any additional work is required and agree a price for this as well as costs can soon mount up when you are not looking.

Also ask to see some of there previous work and if possible speak to 1 or 2 customers (there might be some milling around when you are there). Joining your local branch of the MMOC might be useful especially if you are lacking in knowledge as a member might be able to help you sort out the best place to go.

I wouldn't be going with any 'estimates' of the cost. FIRM PRICE only for the work in question. If they know their stuff - they will know what needs doing to put it completely right. There is one place I would NOT recommend - PM me if you don't know already.

I will happily recommend chertsey minors, they have worked on my convertible, if you want to have a look at thier work you are more than welcome to come and see it..

I would not recommend.. pm'd you ( if any one else want to know this name please drop me a pm and i will let you know.. I won a small claims court case against them due to the poor quality of work.. and they did turn up in court to defend them selves )
