front dampers

Post by wishbone »

I noticed today that the off side damper arm is lower in the hole (inner wing) than the near side. N/s is around centre verticaly and the o/s is close to the bottom. There has always been a bit of a rattle from the o/s when going over a bump and I guess that could be the reason!

Question is what causes that and how do I fix/adjust it?

It sounds as though the torsion bar has been dismantled at some time and replaced with the adjuster in the wrong position. The height can be adjusted using a combination of the adjuster plate at the rear end of the torsion arm (against the centre crossmember) and the position of the suspension arm on the torsion bar. Procedure is fully covered in the manual. For reference, a datum line through the centre of the torsion bar (that is, parallel to the ground, not half way along it!) should be 10 & 11/16 inches from the ground.

Ok that sounds likely I'll have a look at the manual tomorrow! Cheers
