front brakes
some advice needed, im in the middle of upgrading my brakes,, i am fitting a 1275 engine,1098 g/box, and uprating the diff to ,,a 3.9,, if i can find one,, a lot have people have said fit 8 in drums and a servo and this will be great, question is, do i need the servo or not? would be a waste if not needed,

Re: front brakes
I have 1275 with 1098 box and standard brakes although I have servo and I have no issues stopping.
IMHO 1" upgrade on your breaks wont see a huge improvement, so I would add the servo and if you happen accross some brakes off a wolsley grab them.

Re: front brakes
Ideally with a servo you should fit harder linings. People will recommend that you either fit 9 in drums without a servo or discs.

Re: front brakes
A servo doesn't make the brakes any better - it just drops the pedal load. 8" drums will be fine if you drive 'sanely' - but far better are the Wolseley or Riley 9" drums. The Riley drums can make the pedal load quite high (some say - not tried them myself) - but not impossibly so by any means. The Wolseley brakes don't need a servo in my view - in fact - could be deemed a bit too light without servo !

Re: front brakes
A 1275 will pull a 3.7 final drive - my own Trav has a modified 1098 and also pulls the 3.7 very nicely indeed. Highly recommended - and - there is a Mini speedo that fits straight in and gives exact speed and miles on 155 tyres.
