Paint Codes for Pinstriping

Has anyone got the info on pinstripe paint codes?

My car is Old English White and the stripe should be red, but which red? Was it a specific shade of red and if not, what would the paint gurus say is a close named modern equivalent?

I am sure that the original paint was one of these old formulas that came in huge tins marked 'Red, Ps/1a' or something equally mysterious, that the paintshop chaps decanted into jam-jars to use.......

Just checked on the Potteries website (car identification) and it just says "red" so it's up to you. Most people use the bright red paint that was used to paint the Post Office vans (or something similar) You can also buy pinstripe tape in bright red from ebay.

Think I will get some Humbrol Red 19 and a decent brush, together with some of that special double tape and do it that way

best plan! get a mack 0 brush( the blue bound ones are best), and then thin the paint to a "cream like" viscosity, load up the brush, run it on some acetate or the front of a glossy magazine, and if it drags, thin it a but more. i think humbrol is ok to thin with cellulouse. aslong as the whole coachline is the same colour it doesn't really matter.

if you doing a hand job you really want a long one as they give a better stroke.

i once saw a small hand pinstrip machine on ebay. it had a container for the paint and a wheel that ran in the container and picked up the paint. it came with wheels of varying thicknesses for different stripes. looked the part and went through the roof at the auction end.someone realy wanted it. must be good
