original colours

is there a way of telling what the original colour would have been i know tonks has had at least one paint change according to her paperwork but it only goes back as far as 1998 which has her as beige and now shes down as grey im not sure if i will put her back to her original colour but i dont think she would have been beige for her year

Go to Series MM Register http://seriesmm.mmoc.org.uk Tech. Info. There is a list of colours and years, take your pick!
Have a look in some hidden corners eg behind the glove boxes, you may find some original paint.

wow i just found out that according to chassis numbers and reg year mine originally would have been trafalgar blue now no disrespect to those with that colour i will not be going back to original sorry im not keen myself that link was really helpful though much appreciated mike :0)

I'm not sure that that's right as on the later cars such as yours the chassis number doesn't identify the colour. Does your chassis number start MAS3D? A 'D' in earlier (pre mid 1958) car chassis numbers signifies dark blue paintwork but in later cars it signifies that the car is a deluxe model. Looking at your pictures in the restoration forum I'd say that your car is dove grey as it has the correct cherokee red interior and there is no sign of any other paint colour in those 'difficult to spray' places.

ok what i did was read through the info in morris minor and 1000 all models guide to purchase and diy restoration book (haynes no f442 ) lol and found out that my chasis info means m= morris a= a series engine s = 4dr saloon 5= fifth series d= deluxe which meant that this didnt help with the colour but the number after this and the year using the link above from mike it fits in the chasis range for trafalgar blue so finding traces of peat didnt mean anything lol im just hoping i am correct on this as if not my head may just explode :0)

The chassis number ranges in the link show when a colour was introduced and when it was discontinued but because the factory was producing cars in a number of different colours at the same time other colours would also have been used during the same chassis number range. For example, my car chassis number falls within the range for trafalgar blue (981731-1288377) but also maroon B (1200480-1257245), peat brown (1200534-1288376), almond green (935244-1288024), black, smoke grey & snowberry white because those colours were all being used when my car was built. So whilst the chassis number of later cars can give an indication of the colour it can't be specific because cars of different colours were produced within the same chassis range. Hope that makes sense

yes it makes sense so really i may never know for definate what the original colour was i think i may just look at the cellulose colours available and pick what i like :0) thank you all for help and advise

Look under the dash, under the carpets or under the back seat etc.... You will find traces of original paint somewhere as even if a car has it's colour changed it will rarely get completely covered....

Drop down the passenger side glove box and look at the paintwork right at the back and sides of this area. This bit very rarely gets fully repainted in a restoration. Under the scuttle panels (triangle between front door and wheelarch)
