Hi Guys,
Is Halfords red oxide primer any good? I want to use it to spray some sections of the engine bay on my Series II.
Any sugestions?

it is as good as any red oxide.. which is to say not very good.
there are better rust preventing paints available.. can not recall what they are called but if you read practical classics they normally advertise in there and advertise that they did well in the practical classic paint test.. sorry gave all my practical classics away to my friend in france when i saw him a few weeks ago..

Pardon me for a very dumb question but -- what exactly is red oxide primer? I understand 'red oxide' is a word for iron(III) oxide, that is, rust. Why are we priming our cars with rust?

Red oxide is just red primer.
It used to be made from lead oxide but I think the modern versions are lead free!
