what engines can you fit in a morris minor?

Hello all, this question has prob been asked lots before but I just wanted to hear peoples opinions on engine installs they have completed etc. The 1275 engine from bmc/leyland cars seems common, and a while back the fiat twin cams, but what are people fitting now? I am wondering what engines can fit in without major alterations? I dont really want to go down the very modern route because of the electronics side etc. Does an mgb gt lump fit? any ideas, info etc would be great, and any pics of installs. cheers

The Wolseley/Riley 1500/1.5 cars were built on the Minor floorplan - and used an early version of the B series engine. So there will be a way to use an MGB B series engine. Problem is weight - the front suspension would need beefing up.

The reason for the 1275 being fitted is that its relatively straightforward, the fiat engine required front crossmember alterations + others so not a straight swap either and remember you may also need to upgrade the brakes even with a 1275 as many insurance companies expect it.
The other thing to consider is how much you have to spend.

Well I've had a V8 block in the boot of a saloon and a 1.6 Cavalier engine and box in the back (rear seat removed) - and vaguely strapped down in case of emergency stop.
I wouldn't recommend putting a Minor 1098 engine in the boot of a 1992-95 Civic though as it wrecks the handling....



Is that not what you meant about fitting engines in a Mionor? ;-)

1.3 A series RWD engine (prefferably A+) is by far the simplest and usually cheapest solution to make the Minor compete with Modern traffic.

The 1275 Spridget engine is the easiest 'drop in' - the A+ needs the flywheel changing - which usually means redrilling a standard 1098 flywheel to fit the 6 bolt crank - and fitting the 1098 backplate and front plate to the block.

Spridget engine needs a 1098 flywheel redrilling too roy. Or yo can fit the smaller midget clutch but it is then very heavy because it was designed for hydraulic operation

You can fit any engine if you have the money/time.
The Ztec used by JLH seems to be a good idea, or put in a V8 and scare the neighbors.
Or how about an old Nissan motor that was based on the A series.

The Spridget engine is almost a straight swap including the flywheel and diaphram clutch. It just requires a simple modification to the clutch linkage

I Have a 1500 dolomite engine Unusual, and not the most popular of engines, but apparently quite a bit of torque It also allows overdrive gearbox, and the dolly rear axle, perfect width and 3.75 marina pcd
