Close to abandoning my project :( (pics)

Post by TEDJordan »

I had a look round local scrapyards, I've asked members on here and I've searched online shops. I'm in desperate need of either 2 repair panels for traveller B posts, or good condition posts. I cant fabricate these pieces myself as I dont have the time nor the strength in my main wrist. Pics help

I Know they're pretty much shot. But at the time I thought the panels were available for both sides.

Can anyone help in any way?

Hi

These panels are readily available from most suppliers - Dont quite understand your problem??

You have one repair panel already?

Does this image show?

If you cant do any fabrication you will have to use a left and right on each side and cut and weld them together. Its rather an expensive way to do it though.

This isnt an easy repair, as its very visible where the wood joins. I found the repair sections to be a very poor fit and made mine up with a combination of 2 door saloon sections and the traveller one u have pictured. I found it a big help to make a template of the wood from from plywood and screw it into the post to make it easier to keep things lined up.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Above all take your time when doing this, you will get there eventually!! :D

We've done the same repair as David on my Traveller. It is fiddly, but the wood guide is a help - we used a spare piece of metal, but same technique. :D

The repair panels suggested are the panels I have already. They only do the 'front' of the pillar as the back is a pretty different shape. I weighed up using two welded together but it still wouldnt look right I thought. I'll take some more pics tomorrow evening. Cost isnt an issue at the minute. I just need this sorted out before I can move forward.

Your repair looks good david. I may end up doing the same then.

Very neat David! The plywood former is ideal - very clever.

I had much the same issue - used the old (rotten) wood as a guide for the new steel. I used the repair section on the offside, but had to cut & reshape so much that I made my own on the nearside (easier than you'd think if you reduce it to it's smallest component parts) - just time consuming.
