hard drive recorders

Post by Jefftav »

We have been looking at replacing our current dvd player and fancied one of these http://www.ricability-digitaltv.org.uk/ ... 897M%20XEU but we seem to be finding that these units only have 1 tuner so we can't record a programme and watch another tv channel at the same time. This kind of defeats the object of having a recorder as we will have to leave the room whilst recording..

The way around it is to only have a hard disk recorder this will allow 1 TV programme to be watch whilst recording another TV programme and then have a separate DVD player/recorder.

Has anyone else encountered this and is there a better way to do this as we think we want the Hard disk and a recordable DVD so that DVD's can be shared with friends/family.

I will apologise in advance for being a bit thick as the answer is probably very easy. :D

I got a sony with hard drive last year and it's great you can record one programme while watching another, you can also play catch-up on a programme that is already recording. Mine's only got a single tuner, that means you can only record one channel at a time. This how mine is connected,
Aerial from wall to aerial in socket on back of dvd player
Aerial out of dvd player out socket to tv aerial in socket
Scart lead from dvd line 3 on back of dvd player to av1 in socket on back of tv

The only problem I encounter is when playing catch up on a recording programme and I decide to go back to tv while the dvd is still recording. I have to turn the tv off and then back on again to get it to revert to real time programmes

This is the one I bought last year from Richer sounds and it was region free, you have to pay a bit more for region free but it allows you to watch US dvds

Hope this helps
Peter

I've got a Sony one as well Jeff - works great. Its only got one recording channel but that allows you to record one channel and watch something else on TV or play something youve already recorded or play a DVD all while youre still recording
Had it about 18 months with not a single problem

You'll need to use a UK proxy server.

Try a Google search for "proxy for iplayer"

My dirt cheap (Wharfedale) DTV recorder has twin tuners so you can record 2 programs at once whilst watching another one you have already recorded. Also great if you want to record a series as it automaticaly grabs every episode for you to watch later. I have a least 10 episodes of the sweeney yet to watch as well as episodes of minder.

It has program pause, for when the phone rings as well.

All in all it is brilliant and they only cost £79 when new, mine came off freecycle, just needed a new hard drive so used an old 80 Gb I had lying around which gives me 40 hours ish, more telly than I have time to watch !

I intend to live forever.....so far so good
