STEERING COLUMN

hi , coming home from a trip to the coast, hit a large pothole :( got home . when putting car in to my drive the steering column seems loose :( i can lift it up and down and pull the wheel towards me ? not a lot of movement but it wasnt like this before :cry: :cry: :cry: any idea where to start to look will be most helpful thanks

the pinch bolt at the base of the column

thanks. i have tightened the pinch bolt, but there is still some slight movement when the wheel is pulled forward? what could that be :( :( :(

Worn rack possibly - but most likely - worn bushes in the column.

thanks roy. is it a easy job if its the bushes? and are they still avalable?

I think in the Minor column they are just tightly compressed oil soaked felt. The Mini column started like that too - and then moved over to plastic bushes - I have no idea if the plastic bushes can be used on the Minor column but may be worth investigating if the movement is worrying you.
