jumps out of first gear

Hi there.I am not technically minded and recently acquired a 1969 convertible in good order.However,i have just discovered that it jumps out of first gear when going up a steep slope.Can anyone kindly advise,if this is expected or is there a problem which needs fixed?

It needs fixed - or use second gear!! Start looking for another gearbox right away.

I only use first when climbing the side of a house so you will be fine with the box you have for a while. But start looking for a new one.

Is 1st noisy? Standard A Series gearbox fault.
