Ford Escort Koln Axle

Post by Fletch99 »

Just purchased a mk2 escort axle for the rear of my Minor.
Its 3.89 gearing but of the european koln type.
I,m planning on using a tuned 1600 crossflow powerplant.
Has anybody had any experience of this combination used in anger ?

Probably best to ask Jon at JLH - he has much experience of this sort of thing - but sadly is not on this Forum anymore. You will however catch him on the other Forum!! Or go to his website. http://www.jlhmorrisminors.co.uk/

Apparently, the Koln Axle is not much use for a performance application. If you need an escort axle, use the 'English' one, it's nice & strong, and there's plenty of upgrades available for extreme applications

Indeed - for a Stage Rallying Escort the English axle IS the one to have (which is why prices are through the roof) - but I imagine the Koln axle will be fine in a Minor - even a modified one!

This is a useful article. they don't seem to rate the koln very highly though
