Exhaust knock on cross member

Post by simplysimon »

Hi, I have just fitted a two section stainless steel exhaust, which I bought about 4 years ago, I will finish the car one day,
and it bangs against the cross member of my two door 1964 saloon. I did think of lowering the hangers, but thought I would ask if anyone has had a similar problem and maybe a solution.
Thanks

It should clear ok - good couple of inches I think. Are the engine mounts ok ?

Everything is new, but I do remember, not long after buying the exhaust one of the minor magazines had mentioned that as the exhuast did not have a flattened part as the one piece original it may require some alteration but I am not sure if I want to attack it with a hammer.

Flattened part ??? Just slacken the clamp at the manifold - and fit slightly longer hangers - then retighten it all. It should be fine.

The large bore Falcon stainless system I had hit the cross member too. The front section was too long so the silencer was too far back.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

You should be able to lower it slightly at the rear and midway along the underside.

If you really cant get the clearance required at least put some exhaust wrap around the affected area as this will help reduce the knocking, or possibly take it to your local workshop or exhaust centre and see if they can adjust it for you.
Cheers
