undersealed from new

Post by moggyadventurer »

I have been asked this question many times, to which I have always answered - it was an optional extra, with my 68 4dr costing 10pounds. However does anyone know what brand of underseal was used?

I recently took mine to a well known moggy repairer, who was quite shocked when he scrapped the underseal off to find perfect blue paint underneath, he demanded to know the brand for future application to which I had to admit was clueless on.

Any ideas?

I think it was done in the garage selling the car - as an extra - so would be whatever they had in stock!

I had a feeling you would say that, I can confirm the garage that supplied mine did the underseal work. In fact I can remember having a drink with the guy some years later who use to do it - despite trying all hair cleaning products he ended up going bald before he was 25 through matting of hair with underseal!! I only wish I'd have asked him what brand they used.

A product called "ziebart" was quite popular some years ago and I've heard similar stories of near perfect floor pans on cars that had this treatment. This was also done by supplying dealers.....

Yes - and usually the car would proudly carry a 'ziebart' sticker or two!

Ziebart's the way to go then? Having looked briefly at the ziebart site it seems that it not something you can do at home but something you have to send you car to have done to.
