Clutch freeplay quick question

Post by 67-2door »

I've just been checking the clutch pedal freeplay in my minor & have a query to put to you all!
As soon as you move the pedal the linkage under the floor moves (but I'm guessing it would as it's connected directly to the pedal).
The point at which the pedal goes stiffer (begins lifting the clutch?) is after 2" of travel.
Does that mean I have 2" of freeplay which needs adjusting back to 3/4"? My clutch does bite very close to the floor so I'm guessing that's the case.
Sorry if the question seems a bit naive, I've not had the car long & adjusting the clutch pedal is a new experience for me :-?
Thanks.
Neil.

I might be wrong but according to the manual there should be 3/4" freeplay at pedal end for the 948 cc and 1 3/8" to 1 1/2 free play for 1098 cc ....A 67 should be a 1098 cc

As long as there is some decent free-play - the exact amount isn't that important - although you don't want to be overtravelling the clutch when you put foot to floor.

2" feels like too much though, half the clutch pedal travel is used up before it starts to lift the clutch, I'll give it a tweak tomorrow to bring it down to around 1 1/4".
Thanks.

Oh yes - 2" is far too much. I would settle back at ~ 1" .

As long as the thrust bearing is clear of the pressure plate with the pedal up and the clutch is fully engaged with the pedal down then there is a bit of flexiblity in the amount of free play. I prefer my clutch around the 3/4 in
