Advice needed
Hi everyone
I'm new to the forum and would like some buying advice.
I used to own a Moggy for 6 years but I sold it on 10 years ago and I still think about the car!
I currently own a new car and its not the same so I really want to get another moggy.
My dilemma is that i have no idea what I am looking for when viewing a car so do I risk buying one privately (I currently have no-one to view a car with me that has any knowledge and the AA/RAC don't do inspections on cars over 15 years old) or do I get one from a place like Charles Ware? I have read a few comments regarding Charles Ware.
What is the general consensus with regard to them?
Thanks very much

Re: Advice needed
Hi Miss Marple you have come to the right place for advice and its probably a good idea to contact the local branch who will be able to give you loads of advice, I think this is your nearest
http://www.hockeym.plus.com/
Also there is a web based one that uses the board a lot called Sadmog
http://www.sadmog.morrisminor.com/
This should give you a good starting point and they may even know of something suitable for sale

Re: Advice needed
Welcome to the messageboard!
As Kevin says, contact your local branch where you will meet moggie enthusiasts who will be able to offer advice with regards to buying. If you don't know much about older cars and have no one to go with you to inspect a vehicle you really need to speak to knowledgable people and hopefully someone may offer to go with you to look.
With regards to buying privately or from a Minor specialist you must conduct a very thorough inspection before purchase regardless of who you buy a vehicle from. Lots of Minors can look nice and shiney but turn out to be rotten underneath and very expensive to repair. If you join the Morris Minor Owners Club you will receive a magazine which contains cars for sale from members and the likelihood is that such vehicles would have been looked after and well maintained (although as with any private sale, no guarantees!)
Good luck with your search and you might want to narrow down the type of Minor you are looking for eg 2 door, 4 door, saloon, traveller, convertible, van, pick up and whether you are looking for an older 'split screen' model or a later one.
Edit: you noticed your post in the 'wanted' forum and see that you're being very specific, even down to colour wanted!

Re: Advice needed
thanks for the welcome and advice.
I am quite specific......I know what I like!!
My old moggy was snowberry white and although I love this colour and would consider it again I'm leaning towards shades of blue.
I take it that dove grey is the light blue? with matching interior.

Re: Advice needed
You could try Richard at Ascott under Wychwood - he's not very nearby but a nice drive up in to the Cotswolds. He often has several cars and there's a Snowberry White 2 Door on the website at the moment. Plus he's open Saturdays.
I don't know anyone that's had any cars from him but he's very helpful and is a branch member.
Website is http://www.minorpartsofoxford.co.uk - 01993 830349

Re: Advice needed
The cars from Oxford look nice - especially that 58 Traveller - although I would only want to pay £2500 for it!
