You should have left well alone - why did you decide to do this work ? The pump will run constantly if the float in the carb is not closing off the float valve - did you fit a new float valve and/or fiddle with the float ? Or - if the points are not correctly adjusted - that too could make the pump tick constantly - so you need to isolate the problem. Block the fuel pipe going to the carb - now does the pump still tick constantly ? And - don't fiddle with the 'timing' - stick to one problem at a time ! Why would the timing suddenly be wrong - have you changed anything there ???

I done this due a leak from fuel pump gskt thought would be ideal time to change points to twin type as original ones still fitted, cleaned carb as float chamber full of dirt in doing so disconected jet ass pipe and damageing the rubber washer which you cannot but by itself. In all had a pretty bad day on Friday.

Well - if you have blocked the delivery pipe to the carb - and it still ticks - then the points are not set correctly. Section B3 B4 and B5 of the Workshop Manual give a very thorough explanation of how to set the points.
