noisey suspension

I have replaced the bushes with poly front and rear,new damper link ,(Chassis to rear damper) spring saddle rubbers (rear) new pins,New kingpin,trunnions.track rod arms,sae 30 oil in dampers,In fact everything but rear springs as heard reports of new springs being not very good.But ride is still noisey,clungs bangs wallops.Tee bolt on front ok and tight in chassis,exhaust not banging,Bump stops in place ! Is it because i am used to a modern car? cant remember ride being this bad with the one i had 30 years ago as a teenager ! Help......Oh and i forgot i fitted wolsley 9" brakes at the same time,and altho they are not bedded in yet are excellent,Well after 7" with a1098 cc fitted any thing would be good,No more standing up to operate brakes on a down hill !!! bmceccose your views ?

Well done with the W brakes - told you all they were good! As for suspension - have you topped up the dampers again after initial fill ? Is the suspension clear of the bump stops - not sitting almost on them? I have cut about 1 inch off the rear bump stops on my Trav - which does help. The poly bushes are quite hard - and will transmit more NVH to the shell than the old soft rubber bushes - maybe this is what you are experiencing ? NVH = Noise Vibration Harshness

Flush the dampers with another dose of the SAE 30 oil. And - make sure the car is not sitting so low - it's virtually sitting on the bump stop rubbers.

It's 1/2 " from bump stop to flat plate,have sliced 1" off stops but still no diff,Will try flushing dampers again ! Thanks Old Nick

Ah well - I think there is your problem - the rear springs have likely lost their elasticity. Temp cure is to fit longer shackle plates - easily made from flat bar. An extra 1" between the holes lifts the car by 1/2". at the front - the torsion bars are of course easily adjusted to lift the car. Long travel /supple/well damped suspension was Colin Chapman's theory - he wasn't wrong!

So - now 2 1/2" clearance ? Should be enough I would think. The sae 30 oil - is it 'straight' 30 oil and not a multigrade - such as 5W30 which would be useless! ?

Not Multigrade It's lawnmower oil straight 30 SAE from local garden center !Could feel the diffrence after filling !
Seems the front is making the clonking noises.

Well again - if its' too low - or perhaps the damper bolts are loose ? Trunnions loose? Tie bar mounts secure ? Eyebolts secure in the chassis legs ??
