Until recently my speedo worked fine and was almost accurate however it has suddenly started over-reading by about 20%! Would this be caused by a problem with the cable? (I assume this because it fluctuates a lot aswell).
I have a ford type 9 gearbox so If it is the cable that needs replacing how does it connect to the box? as it doesnt seem to have the threaded nut like the standard minor one.
thanks.

Re: Speedo over-reading
Can't be the cable - it just rotates at speed relative to gearbox final drive - but the 'swinging' could be/have affected the spring in the SPEEDO! (Thanks Rich - It's me that's getting dizzy!)

Re: Speedo over-reading
I think Roy means the spring in the speedo - they can go weak esp if they swing around violently for any length of time and as you get less resistance from the spring the needle will rise quicker than it should do....
Time for a replacement speedo and fix the cable so the new speedo doesn't go the same way.
